"School teachers from Rotherham
made their borough proud this month after scooping
prizes at the prestigious Teaching Awards for the North
of England ceremony.
Out of just 11 overall winners, two teachers were from Rotherham,
including Judy Oldale of the Rawmarsh Children’s Centre who
won Special Needs Teacher of the Year and Lynda Saunders of Rawmarsh
Atwood Primary School, picking up the Teaching Award for Enterprise.
The accolades didn’t end there with Heather Green of Woodsetts
Primary School receiving a distinction for Head Teacher of the
Year in a Primary School, while Tina Otter received a distinction
in the Teaching Award for Enterprise for her work at Maltby Craggs
Infant School.
The ceremony at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate was hosted by BBC
presenter Ian White and attracted a large audience of education
professionals, children, family and friends of the nominees.
Chief Executive, Caroline Evans said: “This year we have
had a record number of nominations and judges have told me what
high quality finalists they have had to choose from.”
The runners up were awarded with a distinction or commendation
and an engraved glass award, while the winners will go forward
to the televised UK ceremony held in London in October.
Heather Green of Woodsetts Primary, who received a distinction
said: “It was a really special day and very interesting to
speak to teachers about the work they are doing. It was extremely
well organised and enjoyable.”
