Brightly coloured flags, eager school children and hordes of sponsors ensured the Make £5 Blossom idea opened with a bang this week.
Rotherham Town Hall came alive as the crowds gathered for photographs with a large £150 novelty cheque, Rotherham Ready flags and a huge ‘Make £5 Blossom’ cake.
Children and teachers from several Rotherham schools came to support the launch and Jenni Robinson, enterprise champion at Herringthorpe Infants said:
“Enterprise is a vital skill because it puts numeracy and literacy into real contexts. We are really excited about this project and hope to run it with children as young as three.”
After the photo shoot, the schools had an opportunity to meet their sponsors, tuck into the cake and discuss possible business ideas.
Matthew Smith, Managing Director for Dilectus will be loaning £150 to St Mary’s School, Herringthorpe which carried out the pilot of ‘Make £5 Blossom.’ He said:

Dilectus deliver some of the best career opportunities in the Quantity Surveying Industry and Matthew, who has previously won the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award added:
“I think it will be great to hear the kids’ ideas. I want to help encourage the confidence that will make them a success in later life.”
UK Steel Enterprise will sponsor two schools in their attempt to ‘Make £5 Blossom’. This subsidiary of the Corus Group plc aim to improve the economies of areas in the UK affected by the steel industry and Investment Manager, Allan Wood said:
