On January 9th, a new scheme launched which aims to prepare Rotherham’s young people for the world of work through exciting workshops and new challenges.
Rotherham Ready, NESTA and Objective One are working together to motivate 40 Year 10 students as th ey develop their enterprise skills, in a bid to make them stand out from the crowd when they begin their career.
25 leading edge entrepreneurs attended the launch of ‘Enterprise Pathway’ at the Holiday Inn in Rotherham to discuss their businesses, how they have taken risks to make their company a success and what gets them excited. They completed questionnaires and these will be used as a learning tool to guide and encourage the students over the next few months.
Rotherham Ready has six action-packed workshops in store for the Year 10’s, which will include presentation and speaking classes with ‘Fat Friends’ actor, Ian McHale, confidence building with comedian, Jean Stewart and inspiring sessions with ambitious young entrepreneurs who are already climbing the business ladder.
The scheme will end with an overnight visit to London, where the students will get a glimpse into their possible futures with a trip to the Stock Exchange and the House of Commons.
At the end of their school year, Rotherham Ready will ensure their work placement is enhanced to “take them one step further and maximise their experience”, said Project Co-ordinator, Panni Loh.
