News: Brinsworth Howarth J&I scoop Tenner Tycoon title!

Posted on: May 27th, 2011

A Year 6 classes from Brinsworth Howarth J&I School have been awarded one of ten prestigious titles in the international Tenner Tycoon competition run by Dragon’s Den star, Peter Jones.

Winners of  ‘The Best Business Idea for a Group’ , the children focussed their business plans around their Shakespeare topic and the play Macbeth. From an initial £10 loan, the children raised an impressive £879.00.

Head teacher Maxine Crawford said that the atmosphere in school was ‘electric’ after receiving the news. Mrs Crawford said, “Enterprise features in every lesson – it might not always be about running a business, but it is about an exciting and relevant approach to learning that gives ownership to children and lets them take the lead.”

After being crowned ‘The Most Enterprising Place in the UK’ in 2010, Rotherham’s schools are certainly proving why we got the title.

A spokesperson for Tenner Tycoon commented, “This was an outstanding idea. There really were no others which could compete with the creativity and teamwork demonstrated by children at Brinsworth Howarth. We were very impressed.”

Congratulations to all staff and students at the school.
