News: Well done Rothermunchers!

Lee and Jo from Spear & Jackson with staff and students at Rothermunch

After last year’s resounding Rothermunch success we didn’t think it could be beaten but Rotherham schools have proven us wrong when over 180 staff and students took over Magna’s main hall on Tuesday 5th July.

Rothermunch 2011 was bigger and better than ever thanks to the support and enormous fruit, vegetable and herb contributions made by Rotherham primary, secondary and special schools.

Led by Lee Bestall (of Inspired Gardens) who masterminded the idea back in 2010 and children’s TV presenter, Dave Benson Phillips, the event was a huge success with something for everyone. The morning kicked off with workshops ranging from Jack & The Beanstalk to healthy eating and of course, some enterprise was thrown in there too! Workshops were closely followed by a brilliant “ready, steady, cook-off” between Magna staff and the team from Jamie’s Ministry of Food in Rotherham town centre. Cooking up a storm, chefs from both teams demonstrated how to make oriental noodle salad and Mexican fajitas.┬áTo keep the audience on their toes, Lee led a range of “know your vegetable” quizzes with an abundance of prizes donated by Spear & Jackson.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those involved in helping to organise, plan and host the day & most importantly, a very big thank you to all school staff and students who participated! We hope that you enjoyed the day as much as we did.

Remember, Rotherham Ready resources, Sowing the Seed for Enterprise and Money Really Can Grow on Trees are currently still available, FREE, to all Rotherham schools and colleges. For more information, please contact Michelle on michelle.trench@rotherham.gov.uk
