News: New STEM Challenge-Register your interest

Posted on: September 17th, 2014

Building on the success of our last STEM project in June 14, we are pleased to announce our latest opportunity for schools & colleges to participate with Rotherham Ready in a STEM/Business Engagement project (this is not the Stoney Middleton project that you may have heard of). This is appropriate for Primary, Secondary and FE and aims to link young people to STEM related businesses and careers in the Rotherham area.
We have based this year’s theme on conversations that we have had with Primary’s, Secondary’s and FE and feel that it is broad enough to be linked to existing projects that you may be running or to have a as a stand-alone project. Brief summary of the project;

The STEM challenge: SAFE LIVING: ‘Protecting People, Places, Animals/Insects or the Environment’
The Challenge is to plan and design a product or service that’s main purpose is to offer protection. This may relate to projects that you are already doing at school.
This project will connect schools with a business from a STEM related industry. You will work together on the challenge to design a product or service. You do not have to make a product at the end, but, you will deliver a presentation that clearly demonstrates that you have thought about how this would be made and that you are able to plan and present your idea clearly to others.

Staff and businesses will need to attend the launch meeting on the afternoon of Tuesday 7th October and a close event with 2-3 young people that participated in the project on the morning of Tuesday 25th November (venue TBC).

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis though we may need to give priority to schools/colleges for whom this is a new venture.
Please register your interest by Friday 26th September 12 noon by replying to this email with the subject heading STEM. I will then send you an email to confirm places and further details.
