News: The STEM challenge: SAFE LIVING: ‘Protecting People, Places, Animals/Insects or the Environment’

Posted on: October 17th, 2014

Young people from Rotherham’s Infants and Juniors to Secondary and FE are busy working on the Rotherham Ready STEM Challenge (Science, technology, engineering and maths).
STEM related industries account for 58% of all new jobs and 72% of all UK businesses rely on people with STEM skills. This means that as well as being important for the way we live, STEM subjects are also creating new and exciting jobs and careers. This is particularly apparent in Rotherham and South Yorkshire and representatives from South Yorkshire’s STEM businesses are working with us to engage young people with STEM. Our inspiring STEM mentors are Airmaster, Santander, Parkgate Shopping, Whistle Stop Sweet Shop, Visualisedit and Infinity Digital.
This project will connect the young people with their STEM mentor. They will work together on the challenge to design a product or service within the important theme of safe living. We are pleased to be working with Rotherham College again who are hosting and judging the entries. From what we’ve heard already from participants, they are going to have some very impressive ideas to judge. Good luck to everyone involved and we look forward to hearing your presentations in November.
